In recognition of his scientific achievements Prof. Dr. Volker Haucke was elected as a member of the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina in June 2017. He has thus received one of the highest scientific honors awarded by a German institution.

Prof. Volker Haucke

Prof. Haucke is Director of the Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut für Molekulare Pharmakologie (FMP) since 2012, member of the Excellence Cluster NeuroCure since 2007. Since 2003 he has been teaching at Freie Universität Berlin.

Haucke's research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of endocytic and endosomal membrane traffic. The long-term goal of his work is to unravel the molecular basis of endocytotic and endosomal function and dysfunction, thereby opening new avenues for pharmacological interference.

Leopoldina was founded in 1652 and is one of the oldest scientific academies in the world. Among other things, it represents the German science in international bodies, takes a public position on current topics and promotes the scientific discussion.

The Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut für Molekulare Pharmakologie (FMP) is part of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (FVB), who legally represents eight non-university research institutes - members of the Leibniz Association - in Berlin. The institutions pursue common interests within the framework of a single legal entity while maintaining their scientific autonomy. More than 1,900 employees work within the research association. The eight institutes were founded in 1992 and emerged from former institutes of the GDR Academy of Sciences.
