Core Facilities

New technologies allow us to observe and investigate aspects of life that would be otherwise invisible to the human eye. They have thus played a central role in the development of new biological concepts.

Our platforms also play an important role in national and international collaborative projects and offer services to in-house researchers across all three sections.

 

Core Facility: Cellular Imaging (Martin Lehmann)

Our group addresses questions of biological and pharmacological importance using the full repertoire of light microscopy techniques (confocal laser scanning microscopy, two-photon excitation, uncaging processes, FCS, FRAP, FRET, FLIM, cellular uptake of peptides, colocalisation studies, intracellular ion concentrations, protein translations studies, etc. in conjunction with the electron microscopic and electrophysiological techniques.

 

Core Facility: Cell Engineering (Ralf Schülein)

The Cell Engineering Facility uses state of the art CRISPR/Cas techniques to generate gene knock-outs and knock-ins in target cells. Please visit our homepage to get more informations. Other applications of CRISPR/Cas may be possible following consultation.

 

Core Facility: Animal Facility (Natali Wisbrun)

The Animal Facility takes care of all laboratory animals.  Our team works with standards based on directives, conventions and guidelines (3R). We do our best to support our scientists in planning their animal experiments.

Core Facility: NMR (Peter Schmieder/ Hartmut Oschkinat)

The NMR facility maintains the NMR spectrometers of the FMP and supports researchers from inside and outside the FMP in using state-of-the-art NMR spectroscopy, either solid state or solution state and either in collaborations or by providing a walk-on service for routine NMR spectroscopy.

 

Core Facility: Mass Spectrometry (Fan Liu)

The mass spectrometry facility hosts state-of-the-art infrastructure for protein characterization. This includes high-end MS technologies for protein identification, quantification, post-translational modification and interaction analysis.

 

Core Facility: Screening-Unit (Jens-Peter von Kries)

The Screening Unit provides a high throughput technology platform for screening compound libraries (about 60.000 cpds) and for genome-wide RNA-interference using automated microscopes or other methods. The unit manages the ChemBioNet screening collection (20.000 cpds) shared with partnering platforms within Europe.

 

Peptide Chemistry (Christian Hackenberger)

The core facility aims at providing simple synthetic peptides to FMP research groups.
